Summary

Provide access to education opportunities for refugees in KL, emphasising not only academic schooling, but capacity-building & vocational training exercise

Detailed description

For refugee children in Malaysia, going to school is only a distant dream. As of the end of May 2019, there were some 173,730 refugees and asylum seekers registered with the UNHCR, out of which 44,130 are refugee children below the age of 18 years. Due to a lack of legal status, refugees cannot seek legal work, their children can’t attend school and access to healthcare is limited.

Fugee has grown its scope and size dramatically, and now provides equitable access to a broad-based, quality education, as well as a range of support services for over 200 students each year.

The child is at the centre of everything we do, we implement a learner-centered approach to place student interests on top. We do that by acknowledging their needs as a priority in the learning experience.

Fugee students experience transformative learning in a fun, inclusive and nurturing environment. Through a holistic and student-centered approach, we implement a problem-based learning (PBL) model to teach students to solve complex real-world problems.

Volunteers requirements:

  • Need professional teachers.
  • Perform a range of tasks including teaching in class subjects and extra-curricular activities.
  • External engagements and fundraising campaigns.
  • Update content for the publication.
  • Gather and analyse data and organise paperwork.
