Summary
We are looking for facilitator volunteers to assist Rohingya students between the ages of 7 to 12 in improving their literacy skills in this post-COVID-19 era.Detailed description
This is an ongoing literacy remedial program until the end of December 2024.
Volunteers will assist teachers in teaching left-behind students. The students are selected students requiring assistance to master basic literacy and numeracy. The program focuses on Bahasa Melayu, English, and Mathematics basic mastery. The classes are conducted from Sunday to Friday between 2.30 pm to 4 pm.
Each class has between 15 to 20 students. The volunteers will teach a small group or selected individual students during the class. In other words, volunteers will assist teachers with these students' targeted learning.
You will gain a few invaluable professional skills by becoming a volunteer teacher. It helps you develop good communication and collaborative skills since you will work with the refugee children, teachers, and the learning center management.
Secondly, you can develop problem-solving skills as you need to be creative and resourceful when teaching children for a non-profit with a tight budget. Lastly, voluntary work exhibits to future employers your motivated and initiated attitude. All three skill sets can set you apart from other candidates.
Personal gain from voluntary work includes the expansion of perspective and networking while helping underprivileged students to excel in their studies. Plus, you will feel good about it too.
Lastly, you can make a good impact on a child's life. The teaching is elementary, but if it helps them to master the most basic of life skills, you have helped a child towards the path of success.
For you, it might be an hour of teaching. But, for these children, it is a year of knowledge.
