Join Teach For Malaysia as a Volunteer Tutor for our Program Komuniti Perkasa (PKP) funded by CIMB Foundation and KelasKita Program by YTL Foundation. PKP is an initiative to develop students and community leadership whilst KelasKita is an academic tutoring program that aims to narrow the learning gap in Malaysia's education system caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia.


In this programme, we run leadership workshops and KelasKita tutoring programme by recruiting esteemed & aspiring Volunteer Tutors among university students and working professionals to spend 3-4 hours per week on weekends (Saturday) to teach children at the selected PPR community (PPR Hicom, Shah Alam / PPR Lembah Subang, Petaling Jaya) between 8 - 17 years old and supporting them with English or Mathematics subjects!


Volunteer Tutor Responsibilities:


  • Attend 13 weeks of 3-4 hours physical tutoring sessions per week (every Saturday @ 8:00am - 12:00pm) (starting 29th July - 5th November 2023)
  • Facilitate student's learning and monitor student's progress
  • Provide guidance and assistance for students
  • Plan weekly learning objectives and lessons
  • Attend 3-4 hours of onboarding training (at least a week before the first tutoring session starts)
  • Attend 1-hour weekly check-in with the assigned group mentor


Volunteer Tutor Requirements:

  • Must currently be pursuing or has graduated with a Sijil Peperiksaan Malaysia (SPM) (minimum) / Foundation / Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in any field or equivalent
  • Able to contribute consistently for 4 hours per week and able to commit 13 sessions on every Saturday (3 months)
  • Able to teach Mathematics and English at both Primary & Secondary school levels
  • Able to communicate in Bahasa Malaysia or English (The main language that will be used is Bahasa Malaysia)


What you will receive as Teach For Malaysia Volunteer Tutor?

  • 3 months volunteer experience with a global-network organisation
  • Receive a Teach For Malaysia Volunteer t-shirt (compulsory to wear to every tutoring session)
  • Refreshment will be provided at each session
  • Access to onboarding (training) materials and educational resources (KelasKita education platform by YTL Foundation & FrogAsia)
  • Receive mentoring support from Teach For Malaysia officer and weekly check-in
  • Opportunity to develop a connection with Teach For Malaysia community and a learning experience
  • Receive a certificate of contribution upon completion of the tutoring cycle (13 sessions)
  • Receive a Teach For Malaysia 'Thank You Pack'
  • Referral letter upon request (based on Volunteer Tutor's performance)


For your consideration:

  • Transportation/traveling expenses are born by own expenses
  • KelasKita, an online education platform developed by FrogAsia and YTL Foundation, will be used to obtain learning resources
  • Tutoring sessions will be conducted in public halls/open spaces near the PPR
  • Training will be provided
